His latest album is “Me/And/Dad,†recorded with his father, Terry Barber. On the album, the pair perform songs they played together in Strings’ youth. That Purple Stuff: A Prince DJ Tribute Party makes its debut at Hot Java Bar. The event was created by DJ James Biko and is hosted by Rockwell Knuckles. The event, a celebration of Prince’s birthday, begins with music by various artists of the early ’80s, followed by music from Prince-affiliated and Prince-produced acts such as the Time, Sheila E and Vanity 6, capped by the music of Prince himself. It could be hard to stay in your seat once Grammy-winning pianist and composer Arturo O’Farrill & the Afro Blue Orchestra hit the stage at Ferring Jazz Bistro. The Mexican-born O’Farrill has played with Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte. He has also performed with Ballet Hispanico and the Malpaso Dance Company and has written three ballets. ºüÀêÊÓƵ-area blues-soul singer Terry Rogers released his debut album, “Confessions From a Churchboi,†in February 2022 and returns to the album this weekend for a live recording. Rogers, who was known largely for covering tunes, released the album because he wanted to be able to sing and release his own music. “That’s the lane I’m trying to move into,†he told the Post-Dispatch last year. “The artists I like are doing their own shows, not covers.†Rogers is currently working on his second album.
