In yet another example of politics making strange bedfellows, two U.S. senators from opposite ends of the philosophical spectrum have joined forces in a bid to make air travel easier and cheaper.
Josh Hawley, Missouri鈥檚 senior GOP senator, and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, last week introduced the 鈥淎irport Gate Competition Act.鈥
The the number of common-use gates at airports, which would allow smaller airlines to gain access at major airports.
The pair contend their measure would lower airline prices by opening gates normally reserved for major carriers, who now can block smaller operations from using their gates聽鈥 even if those gates are not being used.

The legislation also could help airports by allowing them to accommodate more airlines and flights without having to pay for construction of new gates, they said.
The U.S. airline industry today is dominated by five major players, which have acquired or merged with 42 other airlines since 1960.聽
That consolidation 鈥渉elps multimillion dollar corporations and hurts working Americans,鈥 Hawley said in a statement.
