BALLWIN — The Ballwin police chief is on paid leave “until further notice.”
The Ballwin Board of Aldermen voted unanimously in a closed session of an Oct. 9 meeting to put Chief Douglas Schaeffler on leave, according to meeting minutes obtained through an open records request.
Information about why the city’s top cop was put on leave was redacted.
Mayor Tim Pogue, all eight members of the board, and Schaeffler did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Ballwin’s city administrator, Eric Sterman, told the Post-Dispatch that city officials could not comment on the matter because it is a personnel issue.
Alderman Mike Utt introduced the motion to put the chief on leave, and Alderman David Siegel seconded the motion.
