SUNSET HILLS • The Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen on Tuesday night unanimously rejected plans for a multi-family development and credit union in the area ravaged by a tornado in December 2010.
Pulte Homes had requested a zoning change and approval of a preliminary development plan for nine properties at South Lindbergh Boulevard, West Watson Road and Court Drive.
The proposed development would have had of 20 attached single-family villas and a credit union at the corner of Lindbergh and Watson.
Resident Gerald Kovach called the plan "ridiculous." "You can't put 20 row houses on less than five acres," he said.
Former board member Frank Hardy agreed. "They're trying to shoehorn as many structures as they can on the property," he said.
Still, some homeowners in the area want to move forward on the mostly vacant property. "At least six lots on Court Drive want to see some sort of development here," Doug Stone told the aldermen. "You should be concerned about the city as a whole and not just a few residents."

An attempt for a rezoning and preliminary development plan previously submitted by George Despotis for the credit union at a meeting last month. In this latest proposal, the credit union was included as part of the development plan with the villas and a conditional use permit would have been required.
