JEFFERSON CITY  •  Missouri politicians took more than $788,000 worth of freebies from lobbyists during the first half of this year.
Lobbying reports for June, released Thursday by the , show that gifts from those hoping to curry political favor have dropped off some since the legislative session ended in May. Lobbyists spent about $33,085 wooing politicians and their staff members in June, compared to a session high of $167,000 in February when state lawmakers were considering legislation.
But the reports offer a glimpse of the types of perks – big and small – that lawmakers accept from interest groups.
Meals, golf outings and tickets to concerts and ºüÀêÊÓƵ Cardinals games were popular gifts for lawmakers in June.

About 50 politicians, their family members and staffers accepted tickets to Cardinals games in June from various groups, including Ameren, AT&T and Glazer’s, among others, ranging in value from $50 to $372, per recipient. Republican Sen. Gary Romine’s chief of staff got the priciest ones valued at $440 from the Doe Run Company.
Thirteen people were treated to sometimes multiple golf outings.
Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, got tickets for a John Mayer concert from Arnold and Associates, while a group of Democrats — Sen. Jamilah Nasheed (ºüÀêÊÓƵ), Reps. Karla May (ºüÀêÊÓƵ) and Steven Webb (North County), 22nd Ward Alderman Jeffrey Boyd and ºüÀêÊÓƵ County Council member Hazel Erby — got tickets to the Kings of the Mic concert, featuring LL Cool J at the Scottrade Center, courtesy of Southwestern Bell.
Mega-lobbyist , who represents the ºüÀêÊÓƵ Cardinals and numerous other business groups, treated a bipartisan group of lawmakers – Republican Sens. Brian Nieves and Doug Libla, and Democrat Sen. Jason Holsman and Rep. Jay Swearingen – to a pricey meal at the in ºüÀêÊÓƵ’ River City Casino. One of Nieves’ campaign staffers also attended. The reported tab: $77.80 per guest.
Bardgett also gave every member of the General Assembly a beach ball with his company logo (valued at $1.09 each).
