ST. LOUIS 鈥 With temperatures expected to soar to around 100 degrees Tuesday, voters on the Missouri side of the metro area will go to the polls to decide a wide range of state and local-level Democratic and Republican primary contests.
Polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
Turnouts of 30% of registered voters are expected in 狐狸视频, 狐狸视频 County and St. Charles County, while Jefferson County officials predict 26% will show up at polling places. Statewide, the turnout expectation is about 33%.
Gary Stoff, a 狐狸视频 Election Board director, said his turnout estimate for Tuesday is a bit lower than it would have been were it not for the 100-degree prediction.
Meanwhile, Kurt Bahr, St. Charles County鈥檚 elections director, said he hasn鈥檛 seen noticeable differences in turnout there due to very hot or very cold weather over the years.

But he said the high temperatures Tuesday might have some impact in the region鈥檚 urban core where voters may be more likely to walk or use public transit.
Among the most competitive races is the high-spending battle for the Democratic nomination for the 1st District U.S. House seat between incumbent Cori Bush and 狐狸视频 County Prosecutor Wesley Bell.
Also in the race in the heavily Democratic district, which takes in all of 狐狸视频 and parts of north, central and west 狐狸视频 County, are former state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal and Ron Harshaw.
Big bucks also have flowed into the race for the Republican nomination to succeed retiring GOP Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer of St. Elizabeth in the 3rd U.S. House district. The sprawling district takes in parts of St. Charles and Jefferson counties and stretches west to the Lake of the Ozarks.
Two former state senators, Bob Onder of Lake Saint Louis and Kurt Schaefer of the Columbia area, have had the highest profiles in the GOP field. One of the seven men seeking the party鈥檚 nomination in the 3rd, Rep. Justin Hicks of Lake Saint Louis, suspended his campaign last month.
Voters in other parts of the metro area will cast ballots for nominees in two other U.S. House districts, the 2nd and 8th, in which GOP incumbents Ann Wagner of Town and Country and Jason Smith of Salem are seeking reelection.
There will be races for six statewide offices on the ballot 鈥 led by a U.S. Senate seat and the governorship.
Legislature
Meanwhile, four contested state Senate primary races and 24 contested state House races are on Tuesday鈥檚 ballots.
The Senate lineup includes a 3-way 15th District GOP contest in west 狐狸视频 County between County Councilman Mark Harder of Ballwin, former state Rep. David Gregory of Chesterfield and former Wildwood Mayor Jim Bowlin.
There鈥檚 a four-way Republican Senate primary tussle in St. Charles County鈥檚 23rd District between state Reps. Adam Schnelting and Phil Christofanelli, former County Elections Director Rich Chrismer and Dan O鈥機onnell, all of St. Peters.
In the 3rd District which takes in part of Jefferson County and some other counties, state Reps. Cyndi Buchheit-Courtway of Festus and Mike Henderson of Bonne Terre are seeking the GOP nomination.
Sen. Angela Walton Mosley of Florissant is trying to hold off a challenge Tuesday from state Rep. Chantelle Nickson-Clark of north 狐狸视频 County in the 13th District Democratic primary.

Generating the most interest has been the Democratic primary fight between Sheriff Vernon Betts and challenger Alfred Montgomery, in a repeat of a match-up won easily by Betts four years ago.
Meanwhile, city Treasurer Adam Layne is opposed in the Democratic primary by former Alderman Jimmie Matthews, who has run unsuccessfully for numerous other offices in recent years.

Two incumbent County Council members have primary challenges.
Democratic Councilwoman Shalonda Webb of North County鈥檚 4th District faces former Councilwoman Rochelle Walton Gray, whom Webb defeated in 2020. In South County鈥檚 6th District, incumbent Ernie Trakas is opposed in the GOP primary by G. Michael Archer.
A three-way Democratic primary race in the 2nd District features state Rep. Gretchen Bangert of Florissant, former Creve Coeur Councilwoman Nicole Greer and Lequeshiah Young of Maryland Heights.
St. Charles County
Longtime County Councilmen Joe Brazil of the Defiance area and Dave Hammond of O鈥橣allon both have Republican primary opposition from O鈥橣allon City Council members.
Brazil faces Nathan Bibb in the 2nd District and Hammond is running against Debbie Cook, a former Democrat, in the 4th. Further east in the 6th District, another GOP County Council fight features former St. Charles Mayor Patti York and Missy Palitzsch.
Three associate circuit judges 鈥 Dennis Chassaniol, Robert Cornejo and Matthew Thornhill 鈥 are all running for a GOP circuit judgeship nomination. Meanwhile, four Republicans are seeking an associate circuit judgeship nomination.
Jefferson County
Sheriff Dave Marshak has Republican primary opposition in Colin Rumpsa, while County Treasurer Paula Wagner is opposed by former state Sen. Paul Wieland.
There also are three County Council GOP primary races on tap. One features ex-state Rep. Jeff Roorda, the former high-profile business manager of the 狐狸视频 Police Officers Association and a former Democrat, against Billy Crow and Alan Leaderbrand.
Propositions
Proposed property tax increases are sought by the Monarch Fire Protection District in west 狐狸视频 County and Calverton Park, a small municipality in North County.
A bond issue spurring a property tax increase is on the ballot in the St. Clair fire district in Franklin County.
Property tax hikes also will be voted on in the Boles fire district in Franklin County, the Mapaville fire district in Jefferson County and New Melle fire district in St. Charles County. The New Melle district also is seeking a bond issue that would not spur a tax hike.
Bond issues that also wouldn鈥檛 trigger tax increases are on the ballot in the Jennings School District and Wentzville fire district.
