Members of the Missouri House think they see a problem that needs to be remedied. They call it the "tyranny of the majority" ("Abortion opponents push to make it harder to change Missouri Constitution," Jan. 23).
Think about that phrase for a moment. They want to fix this horrible problem with an initiative to be voted on in August. This would be in time to be in place before any abortion bill that might be on the ballot in November.
Their idea is to put in place a rule that would require a majority vote in a majority of congressional districts for a constitutional amendment to pass. Since the Republican-gerrymandered districts have a greater number of Republican voters, this would effectively create "a tyranny of Republicans" — which they, of course would prefer to a simple majority of voters.
